Tubac is over 250 years old
and is the first European settlement in Arizona. Why not become part of
Tubac and its historic past and present? We are looking for individuals
who are excited about preserving and celebrating Tubac's history,
culture and unique qualities. If you feel as we do, don't delay in
joining us today! |
Volunteer OpportunitiesHow fortunate we are to have so many devoted
volunteers at THS! Some have really made THS a life’s work. Just
ask Irene if we ever need office supplies. (We don’t. She gets
them all for us at yard sales and bargain spots.) And there are
many more people who help with the Festival booth, who build
shelves, sort books, and so on. But, we always appreciate more
help. Even a few hours here and there. Here is a sampling
of the opportunities: |

Index
the Oral Histories: One of THS’s most
important primary resources is the taped oral histories that
have been made interviewing many of Tubac’s most interesting
residents. The tapes have already been transcribed (The
transcriptions are available and can be read at THS by anyone
interested.) and many have been indexed but some have not.

Interview Tubac Residents for New Oral Histories: In December, THS
received a grant from the White Elephant to buy the equipment
needed to transfer our many oral histories on cassette tape to
new digital files. We now hope to expand our collection by
interviewing more people who have stories to tell about Tubac
history.
THE JOB: We have are
looking for some talented individual who would like to try
recording interviews which will enlighten us all about Tubac
history. These would probably be done with a tape recorder. At
THS, we have some written guidelines to aid in being a good
interviewer. If you think you might have a gift for this job, we
need you! |

Document the Back-up Photos for “Images of America
Tubac:” We have all enjoyed Shaw Kinsley’s new book
about Tubac, but did you know that Shaw collected many more
photos than those used in the book? These extra photos—no
less interesting than the ones that made the book—need to be put
into our Online catalogue. THE JOB: Transfer the
photos from Shaw’s files on the THS computer to the Photo
Collection segment of our museum software program. It’s a fairly
user-friendly program and kindly, patient instruction is
guaranteed! Plus, you get to see the rest of the wonderful
images that Shaw collected. |
